Children’s literature

When we started our Child Rescue International programme  in Romania in 1990, we found children in orphanages who never personally owned any item. Everything was shared communally – including their clothing and underwear!

As we started our work to bring extra food, medicines (particularly for head lice and intestinal worms) and clothing, we also started our Christian Input classes to teach the children about God and the message of the Bible.

We gave every child an Illustrated Children’s Bible. For many youngsters this was their very first personal possession. Something that they could own and always keep for themselves!

Since those days we have given literally thousands of books to children in orphanages and poor families. Of course we still give young children a beautifully coloured Children’s Bible as new children continue to enter the State system of child care in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. These continue to be highly appreciated and valued. However soon the older children wanted Bibles of their own, and we provide these as well.

There are many titles of good children’s books that are very appropriate and these we give to children in the children’s homes. Where there are few resources within the orphanage’s library, these books become very highly valued.

We continue to give a wide variety of good books that have been translated into the appropriate language of the children.
