Romania

RomaniaMission Without Borders has worked in Romania since 1990. Based in the central Romanian city of Sibiu, employing only Romanian nationals, Mission Without Borders has established various humanitarian aid and Christian outreach programs, aimed to meet the needs of Romania’s most vulnerable people.

Ceausescu’s enforced population program resulted in over 100,000 orphaned or abandoned children living in hundreds of dilapidated state orphanages throughout Romania. The desperate plight of these children motivated Mission Without Borders to establish the Child Sponsorship Programme.

With the experience we have gained over the last years, our continued work with the Romanian Government serves to help achieve the goal of closing all the children’s institutions in Romania. Our work is now mainly in helping the children to become reintegrated into families - not an easy task when confronted with the severe problems of children who have known nothing but the fight of institutional life.

Besides supporting children’s institutions Mission Without Borders is involved with community centers and the support of disadvantaged families.
